The Cavedogs were an alternative rock band from Boston, Massachusetts, active during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band's lineup consisted of Todd Spahr (vocals, bass), Mark Rivers (drums), and Frank Grogan (guitar, vocals). They gained some recognition for their energetic and melodic sound, releasing albums such as "Joyrides for Shut-Ins" (1990) and "Soul Martini" (1992). While they didn't achieve widespread commercial success, they had a dedicated fan base and are remembered as part of the alternative music scene of that era.

Sadly, Frank had to be replaced by Brian Stevens in 2024. Stevens took over on bass from Todd Spahr who moved to guitar and is, let’s be honest, no Frank Grogan.

SVE w/ Maple Mars

Cafe Nine, 250 State St, New Haven, CT

Come welcome back Maple Mars to the East Coast!

Arriving by time machine from the psychedelic era Maple Mars landed on the Los Angeles pop scene with a multi-colored bang! Fronted by ex-Double Naught Spies singer-songwriter Rick Hromadka, their psychedelic pop/rock debut album "Welcome To Maple Mars" (Permanent Press Recordings) was recorded in guitarist Steve Bern's apartment. Industry mags such as Billboard, Album Network, Mojo, Hits Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, and many online publications touted the album as one of the best indie pop-rock records of that year. As their journey progressed Maple Mars recorded two more albums borrowing stylings from bands like Pink Floyd, The Who, ELO, and the Beatles. Their fourth album "Galaxyland" released in March of this year is currently receiving massive college/internet radio play, as well as rave reviews ("A psychedelic masterpiece" - Twirl Radio) and may be their most acclaimed album yet.

Our first record came out 20 years ago! We haven't played these songs in almost as long. Come here the Stupid Truth start to finish alongside the amazingly talented Brian Larney and his Band!

Haunted by hooks and good old-fashioned songcraft, Brian Larney is an eclectic, non-stop music making machine. The multi-instrumentalist and Connecticut native splits his time performing as a solo acoustic act and as the front-man of the Brian Larney Band. He's an alternative folk-rock singer-songwriter with an honest and thoughtful style that has been described as “quirky, earnest, and vulnerable.” It’s as rooted in the pop music writers of the mid-1960’s as the contemporary artists that he is often compared to.

SVE (duo show) opening for Josh Rouse

The Kate, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook, CT

Dean and I are thrilled to share a bill with the amazing Josh Rouse. You don’t have to work hard to enjoy Rouse’s music. His songs present themselves to you with an open heart, an innate intelligence and an absolute lack of pretension. They are clear-eyed, empathetic and penetrating. Without pandering, they seek to satisfy both your ear and your understanding. The verses draw you in with telling detail, both musical and thematic, and the choruses lift and deliver. They resolve without seeming overly tidy or pat.

The Sunday Buzz Matinee from Cygnus Radio

Brooke Dugan

Brooke Dougan has been making music her whole life. An open mic appearance at age 14 led to a steady stream of solo performances throughout Connecticut and she is now an experienced and talented songwriter with over 50 original songs already in her growing catalog. Brooke’s live shows typically feature acoustic guitar while her recordings usually find her using electric guitars to create layers of sounds. Brooke is a talented guitarist who utilizes multiple open tunings and techniques to serve the different moods of her songs. What really makes Brooke special is the way she sings softly with an intimacy, confidence, depth and a bit of rasp. Her songs are thoughtful with melodies that will stay with you!

Inner Groove

Inner Groove is a band that plays an eclectic mix of rock and classic rock, with the occasional pop and country song thrown in for good measure. The common denominator in every song we choose to cover is a strong vocal presence and a catchy tune.

Brian Ember w/ SVE & Falconeer

Cafe Nine, 250 State St, New Haven, CT

Come celebrate Shellye's birrhday (2 days early) with us at Cafe Nine! Entry to this show requires proof of vaccination by card, photo or a negative test result within 48 hours of show time.

Brian Ember has been slathering New Haven with his soulful baroque pop for the past decade as the singer and songwriter for the string quartet rock band, The Tet Offensive. On the heels of his solo album release (minus a pandemic year), Brian premieres his second video off the album, The New Chastity, and the first time Ember will play with a full band. Come hear tunes off the first album, as well as new songs soon to be released.

Falconeer is an audio/visual project bringing the spectacle back to live music in New Haven, Connecticut. Blending over the top synth pop and retro game influences, Falconeer builds on vintage synthesizers, modified videogame consoles, and a bit of tongue-in-cheek nostalgia for hyperbolic electronic hits of the 80s to make a sound somewhere between Kraftwerk and LCD Soundsystem. As a performance Falconeer uses mechanized sounds, but the human element never leaves the equation. All of the songs have a goal, and the whole production is carried out by one man, live on stage, with arena-sized production values scaled for the modern music venue. The culmination of years of experimentation with electronics and chasing classic sounds, Falconeer began in earnest in 2017 with a collection of animated and constantly moving tracks that conjure dreams of electric sheep.
